Handwritten copies of extracts from Newman’s Diary in Birmingham Oratory, referring to Father Dominic Barberi, October 1845. Notes that Fr Dominic was in Littlemore 8-11 and 29-30 October 1845
On 31 December 1845 Newman and St John went to Aston Hall. Newman notes he went to Confession to Fr Dominic at 1 a.m. on 1 January 1846 and received Communion at 6 a.m. Walked with Fr Dominic and St John to Stone. On 2 January 1846 he left Fr Dominic early. Notes that on 29 March 1846 ‘The two Passionists called’.

A newspaper cutting from the Universe, 2 September 1938, recording the first pilgrimage to the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Reading, led by Fr Brendan Keegan CP, Provincial, and organised by Fr Kevin Monaghan CP: two coaches of pilgrims from St Joseph’s, Highgate. It also gives the notice in the Reading Mercury, 1 September 1849, reporting Fr Dominic’s death: ‘The much respected gentleman was a Catholic priest known as Father Dominic, Poplar House, West End, Hampstead’. Says that the room where Dominic died was believed to be the top left window at the front.
