SECONDARY SOURCES; Printed Articles:
extracts from an article (maybe a pamphlet) entitled "Old St. Augustine's In Philedelphia" by Fr. Francis Edward Tourscher, S.T.M. The author mentions Rev. Michael Ennis as one of the founders of the Augustinians in America. The historian, Fr. F.X. Martin, O.S.A., presumed from this reference that the Fr, Ennis mentioned was the one who corresponded with Fr. Kavanagh and receives several mentions in his diary. His correspondence was also preserved by Kavanagh. For further details on this presumption see items at 8/4/7/9 serial no 4309) This particular article was supplied by Fr. Martin in 1993 (see items located at 8/4/7/10-14)

CORRESPONDENCE RE PUBLISHING KAVANAGH DIARY:
letter from Fr. Edmund Burke, C.P., to the Provincial enclosing correspondenve from the Irish Manuscripts Commission asking whether Professor Hogan might not undertake the editing of the Kavanagh Diary ( see items at 8/4/5/3 & 4 serial nos 7140 and 7141). Edmund sets out the history of the MSS. He expresses regret that work on the MSS was interrupted and that it has been hanging fire for ten years now. Asks the Provincial, in so many words, to approve the idea of Professor Hogan continuing the work.

CORRESPONDENCE RE PUBLISHING KAVANAGH DIARY:
letter from Fr. Edmund Burke, C.P., to the Provincial in reply to his of 02/02.1960 (copy not extant). Edmund sets out the work involved in preparihg the MSS for publication and points out that the work can only be done from Dublin, not from Rome or Scotland, as it would involve much consultation in various establsihments. He feels he could still undertake the work with some assistance from the Historical Commission. From these details, it would seem that the Provincial had not yet given permission for Professor Hogan to undertake the task (see previoius items) and this impression is enhanced by letter of 13-02-1960 from the Commission to the Provincial (see item at 8/4/5/7 serial no 7144)

letter from Fr. Edmund Burke, C,P, to Fr. Evangelist, C.P. in which he gives details of the items associated with Kavanagh that should be found in Mount Argus and sets out a suggested method of working on the Diary. From this letter it may be deduced that permission for Professor Hogan to edit the diary may not have been given (for history of this isuggestions see previous items) and that Fr. Evangelist was allotted the task instead.

SECONDARY SOURCES; Printed Articles:
extracts from an article entitled "The Rossiters of Rathmacnee Castle" by Fr. F.X.Martin, O.S.A., from "The Past - The Organ of the UiCeinsealaigh Historical Society" in which he refers to Fr, Ennis and in a footnote equates this Fr. Ennis with the one referred to by Fr. Kavanagh and whose correspondence he preserved. In foot-note 21 he relies on the Ennis letter of 23-03-1778 where Ennis mentions that his ship acted as escort for U.S.vessels bound for Boston and deduces that Ennis's liking for America may date from the participation of France in the American War of Independence. Fr. Martin had in earlier articles accepted this Fr. Ennis as one of the founders of the Augustinians in America but in a later letter (located at 8/4/7/9 serial no 4309) seemed to be in doubt about that. The doubt has never been resolved. The above photocopy was forwarded by Fr, Martin in 1993 (see items at 8/4/7/ 10-14).
