Correspondence, tender documents, bills of account and minutes of meetings regarding the extensive renovation work on the Church of St. Francis and adjoining Friary in Kilkenny. Principal correspondents included Fr. Dermot Lynch OFM Cap., guardian, C. Harvey Jacob Harvey & Associates, architects, 29 The Mall, Waterford, P.M. Cantwell Ltd., building contractors, 11 Upper Patrick Street, Kilkenny, Liam Tyrrell, painting contractor, 4 Pius XII Terrace, Circular Road, Kilkenny and Donal McDonald, stone, and marble craftsman, Maddoxtown, County Kilkenny. The main building work entailed a re-design of the sanctuary area of the Church to bring it into line with current liturgical practice, the erection of a porch at the back of the Church and the remedying of dampness and mould growth in the main body of the Church building. The work included the installation of a new central heating system and an insulated lining in all walls and roofs, the painting of all exterior walls and the replacing of windows and storm glazing. The total cost of the renovation work was £118,917.

Quest collection books for Kilkenny city. The entries are listed under the family name of the residence (or business) and the (yearly) amount subscribed. The entries are primarily arranged by street name. Occasional reference is made to a Protestant or non-Catholic family.

Letters to Fr. Cormac Forrest OFM Cap., guardian, Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, from the Most Rev. Thomas Keogh, Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin, Braganza, Carlow, regarding the collection of the Bagenlastown quest.

The volume list the names of collectors (probably members of the Third Order of St. Francis), and their sections (each section was organised under a religious name such as ‘St. Francis of Assisi', 'St. Aloysius', 'St. Brigid' etc.). A note dated March 1955 gives details of the amount of money collected which was subsequently given to the spiritual director of the Third Order. A list of novices of the Third Order (with addresses and dates of reception) is extant in the volume.

The volumes list the names and addresses of parishioners in the Diocese of Ossory (and to a lesser extent in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin). The lists were probably compiled by the Capuchin friars for the purposes of collecting quest money. The books are divided by geographical and administrative area (mainly townland and parish). Divisions include Rathdowney, Borris-in-Ossory, Castletown, Mountrath, Aghaboe (book IV); Bennetsbridge, Drumbell, Thomastown, Gowran, Castlewarren (book VI).

This sub-series contains wills, executors’ accounts, solicitors’ correspondence and related legal documents re legacies, bequests, and other forms of donations to the Capuchin community in Kilkenny. The material is arranged chronologically. The Mass Intentions’ Ledger Book at CA KK/1/1/3/5 contains a list of mass bequests from c.1930-60.

Writ of summons to John Hyland, Clonmoran, County Kilkenny, executor of the will of the late Margaret Delahunty (d. 21 July 1894), to appear at the High Court of Justice, probate division, to state whether he will bear the burden of the execution of said will. The guardian (Fr. Peter Bowe OSFC) of the Capuchin Friary, Kilkenny, is named is named as one of the beneficiaries of the will.
