St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: HISTORY; menus for celebratory lunch following solemn opening.
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: St. Maria Gotetti: letter from the Bishop of Achonry, James Fergus, to the Rector or St. Joseph's Retreat, Fr. Andrew Kennedy, C.P. concerning the St. Maria Goretti Novena at St. Joseph's (see also items under serial numbers 8717 and 8718). Suggests that the posters be dropped and that a simple advertisement in the local papers, in which there would be no mention of offerings, would suffice
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: St. Maria Gotetti: part of a letter (draft?) to the Bishop of Achonry, James Fergus, from the Rector or St. Joseph's Retreat, Fr. Andrew Kennedy, C.P. concerning the bishops observations on the St. Maria Goretti Novena at St. Joseph's contained in his letter of 02.05.1955 (see item under serial number 8717). If bishop wishes that posters not be displayed, that will be done. Concerning offerings, some people, wishing to take part in the Novena Masses, do enclose an offering with the forms signed by them. Would help if the bishop could supply more details about the "gossip" in the matter, "so that we may be able to correct any abuse" (see also item under serial number 8719).
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: letter (typed on headed paper) to the Rector of St. Joseph's, Fr. Salvian, C.P., from the Bishop of Achonry. Dr. James Fergus. The committe of the Chapter appointed by him has reported favourably on the site for the proposed new buildings at Clooamahon. No objection, therefore, to the site as indicated in the plan already submitted to him (see items under serial numbers 8728 and 8729).
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: more or less repeat of information already recorded about the history of the property and the families who occupied it before it was taken over by others.
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: HISTORY; The Sligo Champion: Blessing of New Passionist Oratory: Bishop Morrisroe's first visit; told the story of the Passionists in Ireland.
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: letter from Elenora Breese,, 8 Hugo House, 178 Sloane Street, London, to Fr. Anselm Kelleghan, C.P., thanking him for sending on photographs of Cloonamahon. She is the last of the Tweedy children who played in the grounds of Cloonamahon and she hopes his grand-children and great-grandchildren will continue to visit the place.
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: letter from Owen Tweedy ,6/9 Cahrterhouse Square, London to Fr. Peter Paul, sending his good wishes for Christmas, and enclosing a small cheque towards the expenses of the monastery. Loves his visits to Cloonamahon and wishes they coud be more often.
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: copy MS letter to the Bishop of Achonry, James Fergus, by the Rector or St. Joseph's Retreat, Fr. Salvian. Such a collection referred to by the bishop is certainly not with the rector's approval or of any memebr of thge community (see item under serial number 8720). Should he discover who is organising this collction, he will put a stop to it at once.
St. Joseph's Retreat, Cloonamahon: Collooney: letter from the Provincial Fr. Valentine, C.P., (at St. Mungo's Retreat, Glasgow) to the rector of Cloonamahon, Fr, Salvian, C.P., regarding the answers given to him (Salvian) by Fr. Cyprian on the canon law requirements of the proposed new public oratory at St. Joseph's following questions raised by Salvian in the matter (see item under serial number 8726). The position is even less satisfactory than he (Valentine) had thought. The agreement with the previous bishop of the diocese has ceded our right to a public church, questing, etc., even to have more than one Mass for the faithful on Sundays. Valentine asks, "What future is there for Cloonamahon?". In consulting the community on the future of Cloonamahon, they should be fully informed as to all that is involved and they should be given the opportunity of examining carefully our contract with the late bishop.
